⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

Clockwork Angel made me encounter feelings that I didn’t even know a person was able to feel. My level of fanaticism has officially skyrocketed.

Clockwork Angel will dive you yet again into the Shadowhunter World with a new saga: The Infernal Devices. But now it is 1878, a perfect setting to fall in love with the characters and London itself. This novel follows Tessa Gray, a girl who will be challenged to get to know her real self and face the consequences of entering the shadowhunter world, with its laws, enemies, and, also, new friends. This book is the first out of three, and it is an excellent option if you want to begin reading Cassandra Clare’s books. Maybe, it’s better if you are 13 years old or older when reading the whole series, since it can be hard to read and process all that is happening. But, either way, go for it. I urge you.

How can I say it without putting so much pressure on you? If you don’t read this book now, I will be compelled by my judgments and morals to go to your house and force you to read it. If that was not enough, then I enumerate the reason why you should open this amazing novel written by this prodigious author.

First and foremost, you don’t want me to go to your house so…

Secondly, because of the main character, also known as Tessa Gray. While reading Clockwork Angel you will connect on a deep level with her. From the very first moment, in the first chapter, you are able to understand this lonely girl who does not have many things, all she cares for is her brother and her books. She has been plucked from her home and manipulated into traveling to London where a new life, with new opportunities and beginnings, is what is promised to her. Unlike every other saga from Cassandra, Tessa is the first main character who is not a Shadowhunter (warriors on Earth born with angel blood that seek to eliminate demons). And the fact that she lives among them when she arrives at the London Institute makes her feel like a fish out of water. While turning the pages and diving deeper into the plot, you understand Tessa’s intern suffering about not knowing who she is and the struggle she has to overcome in order to process all this new reality and which part she plays in it. She is unique, not only in what she is but also in who she is. She finds joy in books (as well as many of us, readers) and has a brave and strong heart beneath it all.

Thirdly, because of how accurately executed the love triangle was. I personally am team Will Herondale but that does not take the fact that Jem Carstairs will always have a great space in my heart. The romance in this novel is searingly beautiful. Everything that is written, I love. Their individual relationships with each other are marvelous and so different in a positive way. Nothing is repeated and every scene in this book broke my heart into tiny fragments that only Cassandra can fix. Wessa (Will and Tessa) in this book is very complex. You love them and know deep in your heart that they can be perfect if they just allow it, but something is there in between, something you don't know about, and you will not have a way of knowing what it is until you keep reading (and trust me. You WANT to keep reading). Jessa (Jem and Tessa) are lovely and so cute. In this book, you will see the beginning of a friendship where they will find themselves putting their lives at risk for the sake of the other. And finally, Will and Jem are absolutely the most wonderful parabatai seen in the history of Shadowhunters. You can see the devotion they have towards each other in each movement, glance, and word and how their worlds will fall apart if the other is not wholesome. The best friendship ever written.

Do you want a book with fantasy, love, and new beginnings? A book that will grab your heart and never ever let it go again? A book that will leave you destroyed but that will also trigger an unbearable desire to read its continuation? If your answers were yes, then you know what you have to do.
